Lapis lazuli necklace

A very meaningful commission…

Over two years ago in winter 2018, I watched a show and saw a necklace that created a new passion for me, and I’ve never lost sight of how impactful that moment was for me. I am eternally grateful to tinker_shop_, Teresa Palmer, Diana Bishop and A Discovery of Witches. Without them, I wouldn’t now be creating my macramé work, which is such a great passion of mine and means a great deal to me.

The necklace that started it all was a lapis lazuli necklace worn in the show, and in her real life off-screen, by Teresa Palmer. Created by tinker_shop_ (linked is her Instagram), she made the bespoke unique necklace shown below for her friend Teresa so that she could wear it to embody the character of Diana. The meaning behind it is that the stone represents wisdom, and Teresa played a powerful witch in the show who held a great deal of strength. Season 2 has since been released, and Season 3 will be out in 2022. Season 1 saw Diana wearing her lapis lazuli macramé necklace in almost every episode, and it caught my and many other people’s eye due to its beauty and simplicity.

Heads up: a lot of lapis lazuli photos coming up!!

I wanted to buy a similar necklace from tinker_shop_, who is based in Australia, however at the time there were no more lapis lazuli stones being used. Recently she has been making more, though, due to popular demand I am sure!

However, I set out to find my own stone and learn the techniques myself, and after several attempts of macramé, I made the necklace below!

All stones are from my brilliant supplier, gemstonecabochon.
My initial (remake number 2 if I’m honest) attempt at the Diana necklace!

For about two years I was happy with this attempt, and while my macramé skills continued to progress further, I did not return to remake the necklace with my upgraded proficiency or more thin, more similar string. I loved wearing the necklace, and even got my first ever commission based off of it!

Two years later, after starting my small business and selling several commissioned pieces, I received a message on Instagram from a woman who had found my WordPress site and admired my own lapis necklace! She also had an appreciation for the TV show that had inspired me to begin my journey, and was looking for a similar necklace, which led her to find me! We worked together to design a necklace, (having lots of fun along the way!) and below is the finished result!

The lapis necklace compared beside its inspiration! Thank you tinker_shop_ for creating something so beautiful that it ignited my passion for macramé, and inspired me to start my small business!
Lapis commission in the sunshine

This commission was the most meaningful experience to me. This blog site that I created two years ago on an impulse brought me into contact with the most wonderful customer who shared my love of gemstones, and both she and I had a wonderful time making the various decisions to create her dream piece! It made it all the more special and memorable.

We decided on two cords which could be easily switched around with the stone – numbers 1 and 3.
Off to it’s new home! Praying for a safe journey.

And there we go – thank you for reading this far if you got here. This is the story of my favourite commission, and it will always hold a dear place in my heart as it was closely entwined with my own passions and stemmed from the very same reason I started this journey: a desire to have a similar necklace to Teresa Palmer’s. I made one for myself, and now I have been blessed with the opportunity to fulfil this wish for someone else! A magical experience that I will always treasure the memory of!

  1. Are you still creating and selling the Lapiz stone necklace like the 1 seen in A Discovery of Witches? If so, how do I go about ordering one.
